Living 1)Dinosaurs
Could we really ever see them?

1.
Dinosaurs have been a favorite topic for people of all ages since these “monsters” were first discovered and 2)investigated. Many museums 3)devote large parts of their 4)display areas to dinosaur bones and 5)re-creations. Children and 6)adults alike collect dinosaur books, models and 7)posters. New ideas frequently come up, and scientists 8)debate these ideas to see if they are 9)accurate.
1) dinosaur  (n.)
Dinosaurs lived millions of years ago.
2) investigate  (v.)
The police are investigating the robbery(搶案).
3) devote  (v.)
John should devote more time to studying.
4) display  (n.)
There is a beautiful display of artwork(藝術品) in that building.
5) re-creation  (n.) 重建
The movie is a re-creation of the event(事件).
6) adult  (n.) 成人
I'd like to buy tickets for two adults and a child.
7) poster  (n.) 海報
Karen likes to put up posters of singers in her bedroom.
8) debate  (v.) 辯論
Tina and Ron debated which college was the best.
9) accurate  (a.) 正確的
Is your watch accurate?
2.
One idea that some people have considered is that maybe the dinosaurs aren't really 10)extinct. Some people say that maybe there are still some dinosaurs living in faraway places on earth, not yet found by humans. Stories were written and movies were made about these ideas. One movie from Hollywood about finding a lost dinosaur is called Baby. It 11)explores the possibility of a place that time has forgotten; a place where life from the past is not in the past, but in the present.
10) extinct  (a.)
Some plants and animals are now extinct.
11) explore  (v.) 探索
I like to explore new places.
3.
Even new films coming out these days, like the new King Kong movie of the same name, still like to play with the idea of lost pockets of dinosaur life. A place where we could still see an 12)enormous and powerful 13)creature like a T-rex would be very exciting indeed. By now, though, most people have agreed that it would not be possible for dinosaurs to still 14)exist anywhere on earth.
12) enormous  (a.)
An elephant is an enormous animal.
13) creature  (n.) 生物
Turtles(龜) are very slow-moving creatures.
14) exist  (v.) 存在
How long have humans existed?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4.
Another idea that came out of dinosaur science a few years ago is that maybe, with new cloning
15)technology, a dinosaur can be created if we have some dinosaur DNA. A book was written about a scientist who discovers a mosquito trapped in the 16)sap from a tree, a mosquito that had lived at the same time as dinosaurs. Because the sap hardened and 17)preserved the mosquito, scientists are able to take out the blood it had sucked from a dinosaur. This blood gives them DNA from which they clone dinosaurs.
15) technology  (n.)
Technology can be very difficult to understand.
16) sap  (n.)
Some types of food are made from the sap of trees.
17) preserve  (v.) 保存
We need to preserve the forests(森林).
5.
This book became a movie that most people have seen by now: Jurassic Park. Although the dinosaurs in this movie look very 18)realistic, and make many moviegoers feel as if they were seeing living dinosaurs, no one has yet actually created a dinosaur in real life.
18) realistic  (a.)
This movie is not very realistic.
6.
Maybe in a few more years someone else will have another very interesting idea about dinosaurs that will make scientists and dinosaur lovers everywhere 19)reconsider what they think they know. It will be exciting to hear about, read about, and maybe see another movie about, new ideas of how dinosaurs could once again come to life.
19) reconsider  (v.)
I think you should reconsider your decision.
